AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL UMPIRE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

MISSION STATEMENT

For some time, there has been a desire to create an organization that would both enhance the American Legion level of umpiring and improve relations with all American Legion level programs. Directed toward these goals, the NJ State Umpire Development Program (NJLUD) was formed to accomplish the following:

1.      The NJLUD will recruit qualified and dedicated amateur umpires interested in working American Legion Baseball in the state of New Jersey as well as post season play at the Regional and World Series levels.
2.      The NJLUD will invoke regulatory powers when necessary to ensure the quality and integrity of NJ American Legion Baseball remains at its If highest possible level.
3.       The NJLUD will offer umpire improvement opportunities by providing training sessions and education materials. The NJLUD will offer annual clinics devoted to officiating, philosophy and umpire mechanics. The NJLUD will administer an annual rules testing program.
4.       The NJLUD will liaison with the National Baseball Director's office in charge of umpires in order to ensure that NJLUD umpires benefit to the fullest extent from the National program.
5.       The NJLUD will form alliances with all state recognized umpire programs to ensure all NJLUD interested umpires benefit from affiliated programs.
6.       The NJLUD will offer assistance to all local State assignors during the regular American Legion Baseball season and to all Assignors approved and selected to assign Post-Season playoffs, Districts, and State Championship Tournaments.
7.       The NJLUD will standardize the uniform for umpires working any post season tournament games.
8.       The NJLUD will create and utilize a standard umpire evaluation process which incorporates input from senior umpires, coaches, and qualified selected independent observers.
9.       The NJLUD will remain committed to the highest standards of officiating, professionalism, and integrity both on and off the field.

The NJLUD's reason for existence is to improve American Legion Baseball Umpiring and to enhance all aspects of officiating American Legion Baseball.
