American Legion Baseball is a National Program. 2011 will be the 86th anniversary of the National Program. In 2010, there were approximately 5000 registered teams in the nation. New Jersey had 288 Senior and Junior Teams and was ranked 2nd in the nation behind Pennsylvania .
In 2011, American Legion Baseball is open only to players born on or after January 1st, 1992.
In New Jersey, there are two divisions. The Senior program is designed for Players 19 years old and under. The Junior Program is designed for players 17 years old and under. In 2010, there were 23 leagues in New Jersey - 9 Senior Leagues (19&U), 9 Junior Leagues (17&U), 4 Sophomore Leagues (15& U) and 1 Freshman League (14&U).
American Legion Baseball is regulated by both National Rules and State Rules. The leagues are organized and run at the county level by a County Baseball Chairman appointed by the American Legion County Commander.
2011 Baseball Season
Regular local league play starts in late May and must end no later than Wednesday, July 13th for the Senior Division. The Senior Tournament playoffs, at the District level start Saturday - July 16th. The State Finals will start Saturday - July 23rd. In previous years, two teams out of NJ have qualified for the National Regional Tournament. The Regional Tournament will start Wednesday. August 3rd. The 2011 World Series will be played at Keeter Staduim in Shelby, North Carolina starting Friday, August 12th.
